Events in Senigallia
Fans of Radio 2's Caterpillar programme all look forward to this extremely popular June event, which sees Senigallia and the Massimo Cirri programme join together to organise a fun-packed week of concerts, live radio shows and performances and fans from all over Italy flock to the Velvet Beach and the pier opposite Hotel Palace.
Major cities such as Brussels, Madrid, Paris and Berlin are involved in this event and each year Senigallia also takes part in the European Festival of Music for the summer solstice. On 21st June Senigallia goes out live from all the main piazzas and musicians flood the streets, museums, and parks. A unique opportunity which uses music to highlight the characteristic features of different European cultures.
NOTTE BIANCA (WHITE NIGHT)
The Notte Bianca event celebrates the reopening of the town's architectural jewel, the striking Rotonda a Mare (RAM). Rotonda night is an all-night festival featuring street theatre, circus artists and acrobats, which goes on right through to dawn. Since the Rotonda a Mare building was reopened at the end of the pier, Notte Bianca has been one of the most popular events in Senigallia's jam-packed summer calendar. Firework displays light up the Rotonda a Mare building with amazing trails of light, there are beach parties where young (and old!) dance bare foot on the velvety sand, and concerts are held in the old town and in the bars down along the seafront, which cater for the thousands of people who come here to celebrate. The opening party kicks off a series of pier events in the Rotonda a Mare, with its prestigious seafront location that is just a few metres from Hotel Palace.
Great to watch and great to eat: for years this has been the slogan for Fano Carnival, one of Italy's oldest carnivals. The event is one to mark down on the calendar for both young and old and there are amazing parades with stunning floats, the "Musica Arabita" band, masks, costumes, games and sweets. When the sun has set, don't miss the evening parade, which features illuminated floats and a firework display on the fortified walls of the ancient Roman city.
More than just a get-together for lovers of all things vintage, the Summer Jamboree festival transports the town of Senigallia back into the America of the 1940s and 1950s. 9 whole days dedicated to the music, dances, culture, clothing and lifestyle of the years when Rock n Roll ruled and was the soundtrack to the American dream. There is an amazing line-up of performances from international and Italian bands, plus there are hairstyling courses for retro divas and some great vintage shops for quirky original items. Senigallia lets you experience exactly what life was like in a period that we have only ever been able to experience through cinema.
SANT AGOSTINO MARKET
The Sant Agostino market has historical roots as for centuries traders would meet up for a period of about two weeks each summer in order to begin their negotiations with sea merchants. Nowadays it is Senigallia's biggest market with over 500 stall holders, some even coming from far away. The streets of the old town are lined with stalls selling clothes, makeup, home accessories, gifts and food and drink, attracting tourists and locals alike.
Nowadays most of us buy bread from the supermarket, even though some still like to go to the local bakery too. Very few of us actually make bread with our own hands as we used to do in years gone by.
Pane Nostrum is an annual celebration of the art of bread making and Senigallia old town is all about flour, yeast, bread and pastries. There are workshops for children, open ovens, tasting sessions and the glorious smell of baking – the event is a wonderful chance to learn more about Slow Food and meet multi award-winning international chefs Moreno Cedroni and Mauro Uliassi.
HALLOWEEN IN CORINALDO
One of Italy's most beautiful villages celebrates Halloween with a huge party for children and adults too. There are pumpkins, fancy-dress, monsters and ghosts – and don't forget to pay a visit to the spooky Haunted Tunnel! With its stunning fortified walls and winding back streets, this little village perched on a hill is the perfect location for the ultimate hair-raising Halloween party!
Stuck in the middle of winter and longing for the amazing Summer Jamboree and some vintage rock n roll? Why not book a stay at Hotel Palace? Every year the Rotonda a Mare organises a Winter Jamboree with concerts, swing, rock n roll, and jive – for an original seaside getaway!
